About the event
Open to Grades 5-6; Eligibility Criteria Apply
This course is open to students by invitation of the Gifted India Network, only. This is a single-day CTD Encounters at Home course that meets live online from 07:30am - 11:00am Central Time on Saturday, 12/18/21 (7:00pm - 10:30pm India Standard Time).
The wheeled cars and tracks that inspired the modern-day roller coaster were first designed over 200 years ago, long before the safety modifications seen in amusement parks today. How have the laws of physics been employed to make roller coaster rides both fun and safe(ish) throughout history? In this hands-on workshop, students investigate gravity, inertia, and kinetic and potential energy, and apply that knowledge to their own at-home creations. Using everyday materials, students design their own thrill-ride prototypes.
NOTE: This course may have required or recommended supplies that families will be responsible for obtaining prior to the course. Supply lists and recommended suppliers will be provided to families at least 5 days prior to the course. Supplies will not exceed $20 USD (prior to shipping and handling).
